Join national Jobs With Justice on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. ET for a virtual Workers' Rights Board Hearing on electric vehicle manufacturing in the South.

Impacted workers and community members from South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama will share testimony on working conditions, successful organizing and community benefits agreement campaigns, and the need to develop industry-wide standards for the booming electric manufacturing industry in their communities.

Workers and communities joining us:

  • South Carolina JWJ Solidarity Hub faith leaders and members.

    • Workers from the SCOUT manufacturing facility that will be built in Blythewood, SC. These workers will be launching a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) campaign.

    • Rev. Dr. Charles McLamore, Pastor of Mt. Zion AME Church of Garnett, SC.

    • Rev. Dr. R.L. Brown, Pastor of Mount Olive Ame Church of Sumter, SC.

  • Volkswagen workers will share testimony about their experience in the Chattanooga VW manufacturing facilities, their successful union campaign, and their upcoming negotiations for their first contract.

What is a Workers' Rights Board Hearing?

A workers’ rights board hearing typically has 3 groups of participants:

  • “Judges”: non-partisan, trusted faith and/or community leaders
  • “Testifiers”: impacted workers and community members that will provide testimony on their personal experience of the impact of the EV manufacturing boom in the South.
  • Listeners/Participants: these are the supporters, activists, and community members who care about this issue
