For decades, ExxonMobil knew about the effects burning fossil fuels would have on our climate. Instead of keeping fossil fuels in the ground, they suppressed the information from the public and spent the next half century destroying our communities and climate.
On Tuesday, October 22nd, New York State Attorney General Tish James will take Exxon to court for shareholder fraud. This is an important first step towards bolder measures to hold the fossil fuel industry financially liable for the damage they've done to people and the planet.
At this event, we will take space to honor the often unacknowledged and unappreciated work Black women have done for climate justice and across progressive movements. Tish James, New York's first Black Attorney General and first woman Attorney General, is just one example of Black women's leadership in the climate movement.
