Last summer, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, this country started to reckon with its deeply racist foundations. BIPOC organizers across the country held a mirror to corporations, philanthropists, and individuals, sparking some of the largest and most widespread financial investments in racial equity seen in our country’s history.

But even as #LANDBACK and the discussion of reparations for Black communities seem to gain political legitimacy, we continue to see Black and Indigenous communities targeted by economic & political disenfranchisement and terrorized by police violence almost daily.

As we reimagine a decolonial and abolitionist future, we have to be ready to ask—what does radical transformation look like beyond the transactional? How do we make sure our communities aren’t reproducing the harm of generations of systemic violence in our visions for a freer future?

CURYJ co-founder and Executive Director George Galvis, will be considering these questions in concert with Alicia Garza, principal at Black Futures Lab and author of The Purpose of Power; Edgar Villanueva, founder of Decolonizing Wealth Project; and Shawn Ginwright, PhD., CEO of Flourish Agenda.
