Start: Wednesday, September 11, 201912:00 PM

End: Wednesday, September 11, 2019 1:00 PM

We have a system of justice that treats you better if you're rich and guilty than if you're poor and innocent...Wealth--not culpability--shapes outcomes." -- Bryan Stevenson

Are you troubled by the injustice and dysfunction in our criminal justice system? Do you want to find solutions to make our courts fairer? If you, like us, want to build a community in support of justice reforms, please join us as we launch our Fair Courts Book Club with a discussion of Steveson’s ground-breaking and best-selling work, Just Mercy.

The Ohio Fair Courts Alliance presents a book club discussion of Just Mercy. Join us on Wednesday, September 11 from noon-1pm at the People’s Mansion, located at 394 E. Town St., Columbus, OH 43215. We will provide lunch for those who RSVP!

Our discussion will be facilitated by Carter Stewart, a former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. Carter emphasized deterrence, crime prevention and alternatives to incarceration in his work. He currently serves on the boards of Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network and the Detroit Justice Center.

About the Book

From Amazon - “Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.”
