Fair Maps next steps meeting

Start: Wednesday, July 22, 2020 6:00 PM

We are disappointed that the Onondaga County Legislature voted not to create a citizen-led independent redistricting commission. However we are proud of the hundreds of people who've taken action, contacted their legislators, participated in our petition drives, written Letters to the Editor, rallied, and spoken directly to the County Legislature; and the thousands who've signed out petition to end gerrymandering by creating a citizen-led independent redistricting commission (as well as the 6 legislators who kept their pledge).

Our pledge to you is this: This fight is not over — and we need you to stick with us.

This is a movement that is bound together by a unifying purpose: to end gerrymandering and give power of redistricting back to the citizens. That quest doesn't end with one vote, it has just begun.
We will be having a meeting at the Homer Wheaton Park Pavilion at 6pm on July 22nd. Please wear a mask and we are choosing a spacious outdoor setting so we can be socially distant. A rain location or date will be chosen in the future if weather looks inclement.

Please join us at 6pm on July 22 to meet about what comes next.
PLEASE NOTE THERE HAS BEEN A LOCATION CHANGE:
Homer Wheaton Park Pavilion
307 Mountainview Ave
Syracuse NY 13224

Helen Hudson will address us on how we can help with the City Of Syracuse redistricting process and upcoming hearings. We will also recap what happened at the County Legislature, how we can move forward, and what your personal role will be in this movement. If they put out their resolution we can review whether it has any merit and whether it is something we can support even as a temporary measure. Finally we will look ahead to what our options are in 2021 if either the City or County fail to deliver on truly fair maps and how we can fight those maps and what resources we may need to marshal.

PLEASE RSVP.

We ask you to help this event grow. If you know people of any political party or persuasion that want citizens to choose their representatives and not the other way around, please invite them. We are open to all voices and ideas how to move this forward.

* We will meet outside in open air and request that everyone wear masks, bring hand sanitizer, and respect social distancing. In case of rain, and alternate location will be announced,
