Our final 2020 session: Winter action on Homelessness

Join us for our virtual action on 17th December at 4pm, where we will be calling on the Government to ensure that everyone has a roof over their heads during cold winter months and beyond, including people with no recourse to public funds.

When the pandemic struck, the Government acted swiftly to protect people experiencing homelessness. Thanks to the Everyone In scheme and additional funding, we saw thousands of people moved off the streets and into emergency accommodation.

Everyone In meant everyone in, including people with no recourse to public funds who often fall into destitution and homelessness due to their immigration status. Many people had a chance to sleep in their own bed for the first time in years and 90% of all homeless people have been housed.

We want to thank Robert Jenrick, the Secretary of State for Housing, for his leadership - this proved to us that with the right funding and support it is possible to end homelessness.

However, as days are getting colder and nights are getting longer we worry that there is no clarity about future support for homeless people with NRPF condition. We worry that they will end up back on the streets.

We believe that everyone deserves to have a home and a safe place to stay regardless of where they were born. All people deserve dignity, respect and access to safe housing during the pandemic.

We urge the Government to build on the success of the Everyone In scheme and ensure that people with no recourse to public funds are included in future support, at least for the duration of the pandemic.

Join us for the virtual action to connect with our leaders in Westminster who will deliver a small gift and a card for Robert Jenrick to his MHCLG office. Bring a candle with you to share the message of light and hope with homeless people who may not have a safe place to stay this winter.
