Formerly Incarcerated and Detained People Townhall Presented by Women On The Rise

Start: Friday, November 01, 2019 6:00 PM

End: Friday, November 01, 2019 8:00 PM

We are Women On The Rise, the leaders of the successful #CloseTheJailATL: Communities Over Cages Campaign.
Thanks to the transformative organizing of our members and the Communities Over Cages Alliances Members we have successfully:
  • Passed legislation to close Atlanta City Detention Center (also known as the "Extra" Jail) -- signed into law 5/28/19
  • Launched the Reimagine ACDC Initiative to repurpose ACDC into a Center for Wellness and Freedom
  • Began the strategy to reallocate the $32.5 million dollars spent annually on ACDC operation

We have just over four months for our voices - formerly incarcerated and detained people - to help guide the Reimagine ACDC Initiative.

This townhall is an opportunity for the voices of our community - those of the formerly incarcerated, the detained, their families and support networks- to amplify a strong message to city leaders and Taskforce members how we can use the 11- STORY, 471,000 SQUARE FOOT SPACE of the city's extra jail to be reimagined into a center for wellness, equity, and freedom that will be a start to the healing and transformation our communities need and deserve!

Throughout the evening you will be introduced to the trailblazing team of Designing Justice Designing Spaces, be able to design what's in your center for wellness, equity and freedom, have a Q&A with the Reimagining ACDC Taskforce and more!

Refreshments will be served and childcare is available.

JOIN 100 FORMERLY INCARCERATED AND DETAINED PEOPLE FRIDAY NOVEMBER 1ST AT 6PM!
