Food Justice Lobby Day

Start: Wednesday, February 26, 2020 9:45 AM

We are no longer accepting pre-registrations for this event. If you have not registered yet, you can do a walk-up registration by arriving at 9:45am on Wednesday to room 145 at 6 Bladen St in Annapolis. If you have registered, you should have received an email from us with more details about the day.

Join activists from across Maryland to come to Annapolis and tell your legislators that you want them to prioritize food justice in the 2020 legislative session.

We’ll be advocating for legislation that will improve public health, reduce healthcare costs, and fight climate change by reducing food-related emissions and mitigating the environmental impact of factory farming that is negatively impacting the health of Maryland residents, particularly communities of color, while advancing racial justice by providing access to healthier foods for some of our most vulnerable residents.

The specific food justice bills we will focus on will:

1. Reduce GHG emissions from Maryland’s food purchases by 25% by 2030. (SB 478/HB 772)

2. Require plant-based options in state correctional facilities and licensed healthcare facilities; and provide information about lifestyle medicine training to healthcare practitioners in prisons. (SB 768/HB 819)

3. Put a moratorium on new chicken Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs). (SB 841/HB 1312)

Attendees will learn about these priority bills, receive instructions for how to have a successful meeting with your legislators, pair up with other people from your district, and get to meet directly with the decision makers that can pass these critical food justice bills! Plus, we will have a delicious, plant-based FREE lunch together (thanks to support from VegFund). We'll wrap up around 1:30 pm.

Please provide your address and contact information below and we'll set up a meeting with you and the legislator from your district.
