Please join us for DSA's three-part Foundational Political Education series, featuring presentations by Professor Sanjiv Gupta and our DSA National Co-Chairs Megan Romer and Ashik Siddique on the subjects of capitalism, socialism, and the working class. Combined, these three presentations create a solid foundation for understanding the contemporary world and a possible alternative.
On Wednesday, February 19th at 8:00 PM ET, Sanjiv Gupta will talk about capitalism. What differentiates capitalism from previous systems? Specifically, how is exploitation under capitalism different from that of pre-capitalist societies? How does that exploitation relate to racism, patriarchy and other forms of oppression? How do capitalists attain and exercise political power, even in democracies? Most importantly, what possibilities does capitalism create for working class organization?
Gupta has taught hundreds of students about capitalism and socialism at a large public university. He is a member of DSA and served on NPEC’s steering committee. His podcast Socialism in the time of Corona features dozens of conversations with activists and intellectuals across the left. He has written for the Democratic Left and the Huffington Post
