This is a virtual event

While some states begin to reopen, people across the country continue to be held in prisons, jails and ICE detention centers where coronavirus rages. People are dying in detention. They are being denied proper care, soap and hand sanitizer, and officials refuse to take necessary action to stop the spread of sickness and growing number of deaths. New York and New Jersey are at the epicenter of this crisis, and yet our political leaders continue to drag their feet, and continue to spend billions of dollars on policing and prisons, not on our communities.

This moment highlights the many ways that cages of all kinds are a public health threat. People can’t heal, recuperate, or avoid infection in jails, prisons and immigrant detention centers. No one is free unless we are all free. And no one will be released unless we demand everyone be released!

On Friday June 12th, we are organizing a virtual phone bank to call on officials demand the release of our family, friends, and community members from detention in New Jersey & New York.

We’ll gather on a Zoom video call on Friday from noon to 1:30pm to give a brief introduction and instructions, and then make calls simultaneously from our phones, and share experiences & feedback in the chatbox. RSVP here to get an invitation link to the Zoom call.
