Fridays for Future
Start: Friday, September 20, 2019•11:00 AM
This September, millions across the world will heed the call of youth climate strikers — like 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg — by walking out of their schools, homes, and places of work to join a Global #ClimateStrike.
We’re changing the terms of discourse by addressing the climate crisis with the urgency required by the science. In service of this aim, we’re embracing the concept of a general strike as a necessary form of civil protest against the “business as usual mindset” that has brought us to the brink of climate catastrophe. California's Central Coast has already seen the fatal and destructive consequences of the climate crisis firsthand. We cannot afford to wait any longer for climate justice.
Meet up in De La Guerra Plaza at 11am on the 20th to kick off the week of Global Climate Action in Santa Barbara with an informal solidarity rally and march. Come back on the 27th at noon for a larger rally and march with local environmental groups, speeches, art projects, musical performances, and a march down State Street.
