FPA EDUCATIONAL SERIES

Fuel For Thought

from fuel poverty to climate justice

Fuel For Thought is a series of monthly collective learning sessions run by Fuel Poverty Action. A space to share research and lived experience, tackle lies, clear up confusion and answer questions.

Session 3: Plenty of Money - 14th December, 6.30pm

Our third learning session will respond to the persistent story that people in the UK need to make "hard choices" because of a shortage of funds. We’ll have a very exciting line-up of speakers.

  • Is it true that the UK’s short of money and all of us must make “hard choices” to pay for a green transition?
  • Why should we be poorer than a decade ago?
  • Where is our money going?
  • How can we get it back?

Speakers include Lord Prem Sikka, who will look at what "taxpayers' money" is actually spent on and how he thinks it should be used instead, especially in order to effectively tackle the multiple crises we are facing. Plus, what money could and should be coming in from taxes that is lost because of tax failures, loopholes, and lack of oversight on existing tax policies.

We also plan to have a speaker on the money accumulated in the gas and oil industries, and how public money goes to that, and another speaker on military spending, including war in Europe and the Middle East. Stay tuned for speaker updates.
