Grad Tax Rally and Work In to Save Higher Education

Start: Wednesday, November 29, 2017 1:30 PM

End: Wednesday, November 29, 2017 3:00 PM

Dear fellow students/colleagues/members of the community,

The proposed tax plan includes a $1.5 trillion corporate tax cut and a giant tax hike on graduate students. The bill would double or even triple many students’ taxes, making graduate school an unaffordable proposition except for those already independently wealthy.

There will be a nationwide rally/walkout on Wednesday, Nov 29 at 1pm EST to support higher education and show how vital graduate students are to society. Graduate students are the bedrock of innovation and research in this country. We are vital for the structure and function of higher education in the United States. Without us, universities wouldn't have enough instructors for their college courses.

Join the nation in protesting the grad student tax here at Penn! Penn GET UP will host a work in, where graduate students can read, or grade, or do any kind of work to demonstrate how vital our work is the Penn community. We will also have a petition to sign, demanding that President Amy Gutmann take concrete measures to protect graduate students from the proposed GOP tax plan.

When: Wednesday, Nov 29 at 1:30pm EST.

Where: the lobby of College Hall, 1 College Hall, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (on College Green, the building behind the Benjamin Franklin Statue).

Spread the word!

Yours in solidarity,

Penn GET UP.
