HANDS ACROSS THE SAND--GANDY BRIDGE

Start: Saturday, May 17, 201411:30 AM

Say NO to dirty fuels and YES to clean energy!

On Saturday, May 17, join communities around the country to ask the president and local officials to reject the Keystone XL pipeline, offshore drilling, and other dirty fuel projects that threaten our communities and destabilize our climate.

This National Day of Action is being jointly organized by the Tar Sands Coalition and Hands Across the Sand / Hands Across the Land. Hands, founded in 2010, grew into an international movement after the BP oil disaster in April of that year. People came together to join hands, forming symbolic barriers against spilled oil and the impact of other forms of extreme energy.

We invite activists across the nation to organize rallies, marches, and vigils that call on the president to reject KXL and other tar sands pipelines, while at the same time asking our state and local leaders to say no to the dirty fossil fuel projects that endanger our local communities. Whether it's Arctic drilling, mountaintop removal, dangerous tar sands pipelines, fracking, exporting liquid natural gas, or shipping crude by rail through our hometowns, we all have reason to be concerned -- for the health of our families, and the health of the planet.

WHAT FOR?
Join hands with us and draw a line in the sand against offshore oil drilling. Please tell your friends and bring them along!

LET'S TELL TALLAHASSEE, DC AND THE WORLD THAT WE NEED ALTERNATIVES FOR OUR ENERGY! NO MORE OIL DRILLING IN OUR GULF!

(This is the 5th Hands Across the Sand Event)

WHY?
"We are joining hands for clean energy. We are joining hands to keep near and offshore oil drilling out of our waters. We are joining hands to end our dependance on the dirty fuels that foul our air, water and food."

WE WANT TO:
1. Raise awareness about the devastating effects oil drilling could have on our coastal economies and environment.
2. Organize a national coastal movement to protest lifting the bans on near and offshore oil drilling. Thousands of America’s citizens on our beaches will draw metaphorical and actual lines in the sand; human lines in the sand against oil drilling in our waters.
3. Convince our State Legislators, Governors, Congress and President Obama to adopt policies encouraging clean and renewable energy sources.

THERE IS NO EXACT ADDRESS FOR THIS LOCATION!

DIRECTIONS:
We will be west of Tampa (leave Tampa from Gandy Blvd) and head west towards St. Pete. Once you are over the Gandy Bridge you will be on a causeway leading into St. Pete. There will be a sandy beach area to your left (south side of bridge and causeway). Make a left turn across the road and into the sand and look for the cars, people and signs.

From St. Pete, you will head east towards Tampa from Gandy Blvd. Look for the cars, people and signs to your right on the beach area and turn in quickly. If you get on the bridge to Tampa, you have gone too far and you will need to cross over to Tampa before you can turn around.
