Horse Hill - COP26: Global Day of Action for Climate Justice
Start: Saturday, November 06, 2021•12:30 PM
Join
us at the Horse Hill COP26 Global Day of Action on Saturday, 6
November to say ‘Keep It In The Ground: No New Fossil Fuel Investments
Or Infrastructure’!
We
will gather to hear a variety of speakers at the junction of Horse Hill
/ A217, Horley 12:30pm and before marching to the oil site gates to hear music and spoken word.
We are the only event in England at a live fossil fuel site.
Come and make some noise for climate justice at Horse Hill
To
show the enormous public support for urgent climate action, movements
across the world are gathering – from indigenous struggles to trade
unions, from racial justice groups to youth strikers, from small
grassroots climate groups to major non-profits – all demanding real
climate action and system change that comes from the ground up.
The oil from Horse Hill could produce more than 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent when it is burned. We cannot stand by and let this environmental damage take place!
In
September 2019, Surrey County Council passed planning permission for
four new oil wells - and 25 years of fossil fuel production at Horse
Hill, near Horley in Surrey.
The Council’s decision is being challenged in the Appeal Court by Sarah Finch and Weald Action Group. Friends of the Earth says it is one of the four legal cases that threaten the UK's climate reputation, alongside the Whitehaven coal mine, the Cambo oil field, and fueling conflict in Mozambique. It
has never been more urgent for us to gather together at Horse Hill, old
and new to the fight, to make our voices heard and deepen public
pressure on governments and corporations for a just transition, ending new fossil fuel infrastructure and demanding that they work together internationally to assist the most affected by the climate crisis.
Horse Hill
is our climate battleground and We All Must Fight For 1.5!
COME ONE, COME ALL!
