Hurry Up Hochul: Protect Kids Not Polluters!
Start: Thursday, March 20, 2025•11:00 AM

With Trump destroying federal climate projects, we need Governor Hochul to show climate leadership! But instead, Hochul--or SLOCHUL-- is dragging her feet. We're calling on her to pass the NY HEAT Act this year, fund climate, and move the Cap & Invest program forward now!
Join us for an intergenerational snail-themed storytime and play-in at Hochul's office to tell her to HURRY UP and protect NY's kids, not polluters! We'll also be delivering some snail mail to Hochul's office staff. Kids and grown-ups of all ages needed to make this as powerful as possible-- bring your friends, kids, parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles!
We know it's a school day, but for maximum impact, it's important to show up on a weekday when the office is open and well before the April 1st state budget deadline. We hope you'll join us & consider bringing your kiddos!
****Note: We'll gather on the corner of 55th St and 3rd Ave****
Background info:
What is the NY HEAT Act?
The NY Home Energy Affordable Transition Act is a bill to stop the expansion of NY's outdated and dangerous gas system and help transition our communities to cleaner, healthier renewable energy. It ends the practice of utility customers (like you!) having to pay millions of dollars each year to build gas infrastructure, and it caps energy bills at 6% of household income for many households. NYers know we need to move off of dirty gas, and this bill will help us do it.
What is Cap & Invest?
Cap & Invest is a program to cut pollution and fund climate action by making big corporate polluters pay for the damage they're doing. In January, the Governor put the program rollout on hold by delaying the release of the draft regulations that lay out how the program will work. We need her to immediately release those already written regulations and move the program forward.
