Join Metro DC DSA Abolition Working Group and Political Education Working Group as well as partners in the struggle, to connect with neighbors and learn how ICE and the systems of state-enforced immigration surveillance, control, and violence interconnect with the criminal legal system that also polices and incarcerates our US citizen neighbors and community members. We will discuss how we can choose to build safety for all of us, without sacrificing some community members for the illusion of safety for everyone else, and how we can push back against narratives that want violence against our immigrant neighbors to be invisible and normalized.
The first half of the session will be an exploration of key terms and concepts related to immigration, criminalization, abolition, and what we are seeing across the country. The second half of the session will be a panel discussion by people with experience struggling against the criminal and carceral systems of immigration enforcement, and advocating for abolition as the path to safety for all of us.
