Immigrant Solidarity in 2025 - ZNetwork Webinar with
Zafiro Patiño, Aviva Chomsky, & Peter Bohmer
ZNetwork is hosting a 1 hour online panel discussion with Zafiro Patiño, Aviva Chomsky, and Peter Bohmer that will focus on the critical and increasingly contentious topic of immigration.
Many people in the US and beyond are bracing themselves for the tsunami of social, economic, and ecological rights violations that the Trump administration promises to bring. And rightly so. If Trump and the assorted bunch of tyrants and plutocrats he’s appointing to his cabinet and staff stay true to their values, we’re in for a time of unprecedented curtailment of basic freedoms - ecological deregulation, diminished reproductive and workers’ rights, restricted freedoms for activists and independent media, hollowing out of government services, to name but a few. Immigration, of course, is a top target.
Immigration has become a volatile issue in many Western countries, and not just the US. The world has seen the rise of fascism and with it the rise in oppressive stances against basic rights and freedoms. Immigrants are being used as the scapegoat for the ills of capitalism, which is exactly what the ruling classes want since it diverts the finger of blame away from them, the real culprits. Immigration activists and groups are already organising to protect immigrants and immigrant rights and to resist discrimination, abuses and even deportations.
ZNetwork is honored to host Zafiro Patiño, Aviva Chomsky, and Peter Bohmer for a one hour, livestream discussion. The panel will highlight the key dangers for immigrants now that the Trump administration has begun its deportation program, the current mood in immigrant communities and how they're organizing, and practical action that can be taken to resist harm and injustice. There will be time for some questions from the audience - you are encouraged to either send your question ahead via email or share it in the live chat during the event.
