Join Jane Fonda and the Big Oil Resistance Tour at Santa Barbara's Earth Day Festival!

Start: Sunday, April 30, 202310:00 AM

End: Sunday, April 30, 2023 5:00 PM

Big Oil bullies are ripping off Californians, polluting our air and water, poisoning our communities, and setting us on a path toward climate destruction.

Oil and gas companies just spent over $20 million to put a lifesaving environmental justice law on hold. Here in Santa Barbara, Exxon Mobil is trying every trick in the book to restart its risky, rusty, leaky pipeline and bring its 3 offshore oil platforms back online.

The Big Oil Resistance is teaming up with Jane Fonda to fight back.

Join our Climate Action Summit to learn how:

On April 30, Community Environmental Council (CEC), Last Chance Alliance (LCA), and the Central Coast Climate Justice Network (CCCJN) will be hosting a Climate Action Summit at CEC’s Earth Day festival. You are warmly invited to join us and learn from local and statewide organizers about how you can support the Big Oil Resistance here on the Central Coast.

The summit will take place at the Climate Action Stage in the Public Square Zone at Alameda Park from 10am - 12pm . Come early to grab coffee and bagels. The event will include speakers from climate and environmental justice organizations, followed by breakout conversation to dive deeper into the work they’re leading.

Stick around for programming throughout the day.

At 2pm CEC and Jane Fonda, the actor, activist, and host of Fire Drill Fridays, will award  two incredible environmental justice leaders with the Earth Day Environmental Heroes Award on the mainstage.

And at 3.30pm, we’ll be hosting a panel featuring community & environmental justice leaders including: Marcus Lopez Sr. (American Indian Airwaves), Ana Rosa Rizo-Centino (CCCJN), Alyssa Jain (Sunrise Santa Barbara), Dr. David Pellow (UCSB Environmental Studies), Nalleli Cobo (People Not Pozos), and Cesar Aguirre (Central California Environmental Justice Network).

More about the Big Oil Resistance Tour:

Governor Newsom is making big moves to rein in Big Oil’s price-gouging at the pump. But, so far, he has stopped short of the action we need to move California off fossil fuels once and for all. We need to build a movement powerful enough to get Governor Newsom to take the next steps in protecting communities and tackling the climate crisis – by halting all new fossil fuel permits and ending neighborhood drilling.

That’s why the Last Chance Alliance – representing 900+ community, environmental, and public health organizations worldwide – is hitting the road for a 7-stop statewide tour through..

Los Angeles (Apr 28), Ventura (Apr 29), Santa Barbara (Apr 30), San Diego (May 6), Bakersfield (May 7), Oakland (May 12), and Sacramento (May 13)!

We’re so excited to be partnering with Community Environmental Council’s Earth Day Festival to share our stories in Santa Barbara.
