The Public Service Commission is about to make a big decision that can unlock billions of dollars to help lower utility bills for New Yorkers and we need you to show your support this month! Join Alliance for a Green Economy (AGREE), New Yorkers for Clean Power, WE ACT for Environmental Justice and friends at the PSC meeting where the Commission is expected to release an order for the Energy Efficiency and Building Electrification (EE/BE) program that will determine how $5 billion of rate payer money will be spent.

We are mobilizing on March 20th to see whether the Commission has responded to our calls for more EE/BE funds to reach New Yorkers who are struggling to pay their bills. Energy efficiency and clean technology upgrades weatherize outdated, drafty homes, immediately reducing utility bills and energy consumption while also spurring new work for local contractors.

As the affordability crisis is worsened by the Trump Administration cutting funds for much-needed programs, New York leaders have an opportunity to protect our communities against utility bills that keep increasing. We have been hard at work to make this bucket of funding available to more New Yorkers and to improve the program with three core asks:

1) Invest In Our Communities by allocating 50% of the $5 billion budget to low-to-moderate income households, which make up 40% of the state's residents.

2) Make the Programs Easy to Use so homeowners can access all the funding available and be connected to reliable, local contractors.

3) Build Clean and Safe Homes by ensuring the program increases access to clean, modern technologies that reduce pollution.

New Yorkers are facing a shortage of funding support to reduce the cost of their bills and modernize their homes. Gov. Hochul recently delayed the Cap and Invest program and we anticipate the loss of federal funding for building energy efficiency and electrification, leaving the $5 billion in EE/BE as a crucial lifeline New Yorkers can count on in the coming years for improvements in energy affordability and building efficiency.

Join us in making the most of this opportunity and directing funds where they are needed the most!
