Historical context: In 1852, Joshua Glover escaped his St. Louis slave master and sought refuge in Wisconsin. Two years later, he was arrested under the Fugitive Slave Act and imprisoned in a Milwaukee jail, scheduled to be sent back to enslavement in Missouri. On March 18th of 1854, thousands of community members rallied and stormed the jail, freeing Joshua who then escaped to Canada.

On March 18th, we come together to commemorate this historic event, celebrate the strength of our community, bring awareness to social struggles, and connect with neighborhood organization so that we may remember the past and also ensure the safety of our future.
