Let the Sunshine In: Let’s Talk about Ohio’s Sunshine Law and Public Records

Start: Monday, March 11, 201912:00 PM

End: Monday, March 11, 2019 1:00 PM

Let’s celebrate Sunshine Week together! Join us for a brown bag lunch on Monday, March 11 (noon to 1:00 pm) at the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Main Library, 96 S. Grant Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43215, in Room 3A.

Ohio’s Sunshine Laws (the Open Meetings Act and the Public Records Act) enable all of us to better understand how elected officials are making decisions. Ohio’s Sunshine Laws were put in place so that government officials are more accountable. Because of public records, we are able to get information about the actions of police officers, school boards and more!

ACLU Ohio’s Gary Daniels and Common Cause Ohio’s Catherine Turcer will provide an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of Ohio Sunshine Laws.  They will also provide some tips to increase the likelihood of receiving public records.
