Getting arrested doesn’t just impact one person — it ripples through families, friends, and whole communities. In a system designed to punish and control, the risks tied to arrest are real and often devastating, especially for Black, brown, undocumented, and marginalized people in Phoenix, where police violence and incarceration rates are among the highest in the country.
That’s why Mass Liberation AZ, the National Lawyers Guild Central AZ Chapter, and Black Lives Matter Phoenix Metro are hosting a critical Know Your Risks session, this time focused on what happens after an arrest, and how we can respond collectively to protect our people.
- What to expect if you or someone you know is detained and/or arrested
- How to support a loved one through the legal system, from booking to bail
- Risks associated with arrest, and how they impact housing, employment, immigration status, and more
- Community-based strategies for jail support, court watching/packing, and organizing for release
- Highlighting extreme power dynamics between the system and the people
This system isn’t failing — it’s functioning exactly as it was designed. But together, we can learn how to intervene, show up, and build real safety from the ground up. Come through to get informed, get connected, and get ready to protect each other.
Doors open at 10:00 AM
