Let's protect refugee children from detention centres!
The imminent passage of the government's new migration bill threatens the freedom and well-being of refugee children, proposing their detention in detention centres with no time limit. It's time for us to demand that our nation protects children who arrive in the UK seeking sanctuary.
We believe in these children having the freedom to play. A Conservative-led government believed in this too, ending this as a regular practice in 2011, and enshrining it in law in the 2014 Immigration Act. This has saved thousands of children from the harmful effects of detention for immigration purposes. We don't need to start locking up innocent children in prison-like detention centres again.
Child detention, especially in the context of refugee and asylum-seeking situations, has severe repercussions. The psychological trauma and developmental setbacks are not just harmful but heartbreaking too. It robs them of their freedom and their safety.

We eagerly anticipate standing side by side with you, united in our call for justice and compassion.
