Our presenters will cover topics specific to our wildfire season in Central Oregon:

Where to go and what to do if Central Oregon is threatened by encroaching wildfires

How you can make changes now to outlast this and all upcoming fire seasons


Each expert speaker will share a brief presentation and then have time to answer your wildfire questions.

Kip Kemak, Fire Prevention and Mitigation Specialist, Nez Perce Tribe Forestry & Fire Management Division, will discuss what feeds wildfires to grow bigger and what can stop them. He will share how to manage your living space so it doesn't become more wildfire fuel.

Peter Brewer, Air Quality Expert, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, will answer your questions about what to do when wildfire smoke blows into your area. He will also share some tools you can use to figure out where the smoke is coming from, how dense the smoke will be, and in some cases how long you can expect for it to last.

Boone Zimmerlee, Deschutes County Fire Adapted Communities Coordinator, Project Wildfire Director, will navigate and share resources that will help you prepare for wildfire including evacuation basics. He will share tools and resources that will keep you informed on wildfire, smoke and evacuations within Deschutes County


Stefanie Krantz, Climate Change Coordinator, Nez Perce Tribe Water Resources Division, will share how clean energy, native plants, and smart landscaping will both protect your home during wildfire season and also reduce your impact on the climate change that is causing our fire seasons to grow bigger each year.

This webinar is a part of our Living with Wildfires series. This educational and interactive series about wildfires in Central Oregon will focus on how to prepare for the increasingly dangerous wildfire seasons, mitigate inequity in fire management and emergency response, and provide information on how to engage in mutual aid and community support. This series will be taking place throughout the month of May, with multiple parts that will include a virtual community discussion, educational videos, and social media posts.
