U.S. income inequality is now the highest since 1928. Corporate profits are at an all-time high, meanwhile wages are at the lowest point since 1948 – even as productivity increases. Men and women, moms and dads across the country are looking for fair pay for their hard work, but big, profitable corporations are keeping them from making a decent living.

On October 16 – National Boss Day – join with workers and allies from across the city in calling out our country’s most shameful employers for the reckless role they’ve played in driving and deepening inequality in the US.

In Washington DC (and neighboring Virginia and Maryland) the Walton family and Walmart are leading the charge of expanding the wealth gap. Walmart jobs have brought low pay, inconsistent scheduling, and divisive policies that have all furthered an agenda that benefits a rich minority while expanding poverty for the many. As a result of Walmart’s presence in DC, competitors have been forced to close resulting in a net loss of available jobs in the area. Enough is enough.

Low pay and erratic scheduling, a widening wealth gap, and the privatization of our schools are undermining democracy and the livelihoods of the many. It is imperative that we join together to say enough-is-enough. By calling on the world’s largest corporation to do better, we may in turn live better. Support for new and current progressive legislations, escalating our actions, and building support in our communities are some ways we can fight for a better world.

Come join with workers and community members on Thursday October 16 as we call for an end to the deteriorating standards of the Walmart economy. We call on the Walton Family and Walmart to pay a living wage and to give workers consistent and fair scheduling.
