Youth Climate Strikers

The climate crisis is here. So are we!

EVENT INFO: Join us for the Global Climate Strike. We need YOUR help to create a human mural to demand Climate Justice Now, and call for an end to wars fueled and financed by fossil fuels. There will be screen-printing, inspiring youth speakers and a fun kickball game of climate activists vs fossil fuel executives! This rally will be joyful and covid-safe. We're excited to reconnect and build relationships and power with fellow climate activists after the pandemic's isolation. We will not be marching.

The dependence on fossil fuel has made Russia into a military superpower. Putin's war in Ukraine has shown us that fossil fuels aren't just killing us through the climate crisis, they're killing us through bombs and warplanes. We must show up for Ukraine. We can change the course of history. Right now, President Biden has the unprecedented power to kickstart a just transition away from fossil fuels.

Strike with us to call on Biden to invoke the Defense Production Act - this would accelerate and ramp up production of renewable energy, create millions of good, green jobs, and end Putin's stranglehold on the world's energy economy. This is so possible, but without public pressure from us, Biden will stick with the status quo. Join us to demand a just, livable future where we can all thrive.

Peace is at stake. Our futures are at stake. Our lives are at stake.

Note** To protect fellow immunocompromised community members, PLEASE wear masks. Masks will also be made available.

Speakers on Friday Include:

Emily Pinckney (WA State Environmental Justice Task Force, Sustainable Tacoma Commission, and Executive Director of 500 Women Scientists)

Sarah Myhre, PhD (Climate Scientist and Activist, Program Director for Climate Advocacy and Democracy Reform for the Glaser Progress Foundation)

Tara Villalba, PhD (Washiington Physicians for Social Responsibility, focusing on war and climate)

And youth speakers and emcees: Nia, Elizah, Zoe, Ian, Owen, and Emma
