March With BLM DC in the MLK Parade

Start: Monday, January 20, 202011:00 AM

March with us in the Annual MLK Parade

“We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality,” Martin Luther King, Jr. (1963)

WE ARE NOT SATISFIED!

Each year we are honored to participate in this Parade. We take the opportunity to #ReclaimMLK seriously. To invite our community to join in reclaiming the radical MLK. Not the whitewashed, more palatable MLK that people try to control by never including the quote above in the "I Have A Dream"speech though Dr. King included it in his spoken remarks that day.

We celebrate his resistance in a time he was unpopular, many people thought he was a trouble maker, too radical, an extremist, lawless and seeking justice “the wrong way”. These are similar sentiments society currently holds about BLM. Like him, we continue to resist.

We will celebrate, march and pass out information about our work and campaigns.

Meet us at 11 am at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE and Good Hope Rd SE. The parade will step off at 12 pm and proceed south on Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE through downtown Anacostia. The parade will conclude at the campus of St. Elizabeth’s East with a Health and Community Fair at the Gateway Pavillon located at 2700 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE.

We’d love for you to join us. As always our work is Black led and for Black people. With that as a guiding principle, allies are welcome to march with us.

It’s going to be cold! Dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Try to wear all Black or as much Black as possible.

If you can donate hand warmers (we need a lot), feet warmers, snacks, and/ or make copies of the documents we will pass out please send us an email at blacklivesmatterdmv@gmail.com.
