MEA Celebrates Labor Day

Join fellow MEA members as we celebrate Labor Day across Michigan! Don't forget to wear #RedForEd at these events in Detroit, Marquette County and Grand Rapids (or wherever your Labor Day plans take you!).


Metro Detroit AFL-CIO Labor Day Parade

Join MEA Vice President Chandra Madafferi, Secretary-Treasurer Brett Smith, and Executive Director Mike Shoudy at the Detroit Labor Day Parade!

When: Monday, September 2nd

Line up starts at 7 am, parade begins at 9:30 am.

Where: MEA and AFT Michigan members will line up at Michigan Ave. & Trumbull. Parade participants will march south on Washington Blvd. past Cobo Hall, past UAW Ford Program Center (151 W. Jefferson), ending at the Labor Legacy Monument.


Marquette County 30th Annual Labor Day Festival

Join MEA President Paula Herbart for Labor Day in Ishpeming!

When: Monday, September 2nd

Where:        Lake Bancroft Park & Cliffs Shaft Mining Museum, Ishpeming

                      Turn south onto Lakeshore Drive at the light by McDonalds

                      Parking available at the Ishpeming Elks Club

Schedule:     9:30 AM     Parade line-up – Cliffs Shaft parking lot

                                             *Sign in & get your free lunch at the MEA Tent (in the Park)

                      11:00 AM     Parade (Short route, less than 1 mile)

                                              Wear your school colors, bring the whole family!

                      12-4:00 PM Picnic and Rally

                                             Free lunch tickets for MEA Members

                                             ($6.00 - Lunch includes a pasty or hot dogs w/chips, desert and pop/milk)

Live music, speeches from candidates and union officials, free cliff shaft tours 12:00-2:00, kids games, food and adult beverages available.

West Michigan Labor Fest

Join the Grand Rapids Education Association, Kent County Education Association at Labor Fest!

When: Monday, September 2nd 11 am - 5 pm

Where: Ah-Nab-Awen Park, 220 Front Ave. NW, Grand Rapids

This event will feature giveaways, food and live entertainment for the whole family, as well as FREE entrance to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.

Bring the kids down for free activities including a Ferris wheel, bouncy house, and Berry-Go-Round. Kids will enjoy the penny-throwing contest at the Spirit of Solidarity Monument and FREE ice cream donated by Country Fresh.


West Michigan United Labor Day Parade

When: Monday, September 2nd 11 am

Where: Muskegon, Parade starts at 11 am on the corner of 4th and Western Ave., heads east to Jefferson street, turns right onto Clay Ave. and ends at 4th Street.

There will be a celebration at Hackley Park featuring a barbecue and music for families.
