Miami: May 25th Intl Women's Day of Peace and Disarmament

Start: Monday, May 25, 202011:00 AM

End: Monday, May 25, 2020 2:00 PM

Memorial Day Car Caravan to Support UN Global Ceasefire, Say No to Sanctions and US Intervention

When: 11AM EST - Monday, May 25

Why: This Memorial Day coincides with the UN Secretary General’s call for a Global Ceasefire, saying “the fury of the virus illustrates the folly of war.” It also coincides with endless wars, the Trump administration (with Florida’s Sen. Marco Rubio) brutal sanctions against Venezuela, Cuba and other nations, and a recent military incursion in Venezuela. That’s why we’ll be using the day to call for peace, disarmament and non-intervention—so that there will be no more dead from war who need to be remembered.

Where: Meet at 11am at Coral Gables Prado Entrance (Coral Gables Entrance Park) at 56th Ave and 8th St SW and caravan to Senator Marco Rubio’s house (1.5 miles), then we will proceed down Calle Ocho through Little Havana and end up at the Torch of Friendship Memorial at Bayfront Park. It should take about one hour.

Why: Memorial Day is a time to mourn those who have died in war

Signage: Make your own signs if you can (or use window paint); we will have some extra signs if you need them. Some themes are: Peace, Global Ceasefire; Hands off Venezuela/Cuba; No Sanctions, No War; Rubio=Warhawk (or whatever message you want)

COVID safety measures: We encourage you to stay in your cars; If you get out, make sure you keep a safe distance and wear masks.
