On Monday, Nov. 25 the NC Poor People's Campaign, Repairers of the Breach and a broad coalition gathered at the NC General Assembly  in Raleigh to denounce the anti-democratic power grab by the the lame-duck supermajority leadership in the form of Senate Bill 382. We announced that we are coming back on Monday, Dec. 2 when the Senate is expected to vote on whether to override or sustain the Governor's veto of the bill. We are encouraging folks to get there early (10:30am) and fill the gallery and the halls of the People's House. And then we're coming back on Monday, Dec. 9 @ 5:30pm for a reconstituted Moral Monday Mass People's Assembly!

The NC General Assembly's lame-duck supermajority is desparately and corruptly attempting to consolidate power in brazen fashion. The recent Senate Bill 382, introduced and rushed through the legislature with barely an hour’s notice, purports to be a disaster relief bill while devoting most of its 132 pages to an autocratic and anti-democratic legislative coup, bypassing the will of the voters and keeping North Carolinians in the dark. It is urgent that we stand up against this undemocratic, behind-closed-doors power grab from the people of North Carolina.  

Whether or not you can make it in person to Raleigh, please take action by sending your lawmakers an email using Democracy NC's tool and then call your legislator every day next week urging them to vote to sustain the Governor's veto of this immoral bill.

North Carolinians know it's time to come together regardless of political affiliation, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents—all North Carolinians who believe in democracy—and demand an end to the legislative coup and coverup going on in the North Carolina legislature in a fight to uphold the will of the people.
