NOTE: Our SunDay event is on Saturday Sept 27!

We are a solar-powered retreat and educational center and 500 acre land-trust community in rural East Tennessee about 30 miles outside of Knoxville (to the Northwest). We have been living with and demonstrating solar power and sustainable living in a variety of buildings for 30 years. We hold an annual Hogskin History Day arts and music festival for our local and regional community that has always highlighted our solar-powered living! On this day we will offer tours of our

  • Solar-powered Strawbale Lodge Retreat Center and our Natural Burial Preserve (11:30 and 1:30)
  • Our American Chestnut Orchard,Natural Burial Preserve, and recently launched-work in progress- 5 acre Pollinator Project Meadow (12:30 and 2:30)

These tours are part of a larger, family-friendly local arts and music festival which we have hosted for 20+ years to showcase sustainable living, solar powered buildings and habitat conservation efforts as a part of vibrant rural communities.

This year we are also celebrating the return of black bears to our area with Bear Education and Bear Awareness resources.

We will have vegetarian food available for purchase (wood-fired oven pizza and black bean burritos); in the afternoon, free home-made ice cream and freshly pressed apple cider in our children's area--while it lasts!

There is alot more! For more info and a complete schedule of the day's events visit our website or find us on Facebook at Narrow Ridge Earth Literacy Center.

WE are proud to be joining with SunDay to showcase the power of the sun and wind, the energy sources that can power our world without pollution.

Although this is an outdoor event on uneven ground which some people with mobility issues will find a challenging we do our best to help folks get around. It is a small space so you don't have to walk much to take it all in--but note that there are no paved surfaces.
