No Way Home: Allentown Screening
Start: Sunday, October 29, 2023• 4:00 PM
End: Sunday, October 29, 2023• 6:30 PM
Amistad Law Project and Straight Ahead will host an Allentown community screening of No Way Home, a documentary about the movement to end Life Without Parole in Pennsylvania and a mother’s struggle to reunite her family.
No Way Home traces the story of dual victim Lorraine Haw, known as Mrs. Dee Dee. A leader in the movement to end mass incarceration in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Dee Dee’s story reflects the experiences of thousands of people in Pennsylvania who simultaneously sit on both sides of the gun violence epidemic: having lost loved ones to gun violence and also having lost loved ones to the carceral system.
Life without parole has tragically impacted the lives of thousands of people in Pennsylvania. Countless people have been stripped of a second chance, and they are expected to die in prison. We need your help to push to end this cruel form of punishment. One way that we can create a transformative and restorative criminal justice system for lifers is through second chance legislation.
Second chance legislation is a way to bring loved ones home from prison and reduce the rates of death by incarceration (DBI). The impact of past convictions on individuals can be far-reaching, hindering their reintegration into society and perpetuating a cycle of recidivism. To address these challenges and the harm it has caused to communities, second-chance legislation has emerged as a crucial tool to create opportunities and restore dignity.
Join us on Sunday, October 29th for the Allentown screening of No Way Home and a community discussion on the need for second chances in PA's prisons.
