No Way Home: Reading Film Screening and Panel Discussion
Start: Monday, October 16, 2023• 6:30 PM
End: Monday, October 16, 2023• 9:00 PM
Amistad Law Project and co-sponsor Straight Ahead will host the first Reading screening of No Way Home, a documentary that shows a mother’s struggle to reunite her family. No Way Home shares the story of dual survivor Lorraine Haw, known as Mrs. Dee Dee, and reflects on the experiences of thousands of people in PA who have been impacted by violence and the carceral system.
Life without parole has tragically impacted the lives of many in PA. The lives of many people have been stripped of a second chance and they are expected to die in prison. We cannot forget that currently and formerly incarcerated people are human beings, and we all make mistakes. While it is important to push for legislative changes, it is just as critical to acknowledge transformative and restorative approaches.
One way that we can create a transformative and restorative criminal justice system is to address the impact of the carceral system and individual healing needs. To address these challenges and the harm it has caused to families, join us on Monday, October 16 at 6:30pm in Reading for the screening of No Way Home and a communal discussion on second chances for people incarcerated in PA prisons.
