NODAPL Action in Solidarity with Standing Rock Sioux
Start: Tuesday, November 15, 2016•11:30 AM
End: Tuesday, November 15, 2016• 1:30 PM
We come together to protest the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, the violation of the treaty rights of the Sioux Nation, and the violent abuse of the Water Protectors of the Standing Rock Sioux and their allies who have gathered near Standing Rock in North Dakota to protect their sacred ground and their drinking water.
On Tuesday, November 15th, join us at the Daley Center. Because the Plaza at the Daley Center is full of tents selling Christmas items, we will meet at the Northwest corner of that Plaza, at Clark and Randolph at 11:30 AM.
To make a big impact for our message, we will engage in some playful street theater. We will have a large puppet in the form of an oil pipeline . We call it the Black Snake of Death. We will need volunteers to help us assemble this pipeline and to carry it on our march. We will also have drums, signs, and banners, but not nearly enough for all of you. Please bring your own relevant signs and banners. We will have a some brief remarks by some excellent speakers from the American Indian Institute of Chicago.
Then we will march to the office of the Army Corp of Engineers at 231 South LaSalle Street to deliver a letter and wait for a response. More street theater will happen there! We will stage a spill drill, an enactment of a oil spill. And we will have some dancers who will represent a river into which that crude oil spills. If you are a dancer, please let us know that you are coming and join in. You are invited to participate in these actions, depending on your own comfort level. Your presence alone will make a statement against the pipeline and in support of the Standing Rock Sioux.
We call upon President Obama to instruct the Army Corps of Engineers to revoke the permits for this dirty oil pipeline.
This day of action is part of a broader call to action happening across the country targeting decision makers & stakeholders at every level. By gathering at the Army Corps of Engineers offices across the country, we hope to call attention to the brave water and land protectors at Standing Rock and encourage President Obama to stop the pipeline.
