Nonviolent Direct Action Training

Start: Saturday, December 02, 202310:00 AM

End: Saturday, December 02, 2023 4:00 PM

Join Extinction Rebellion for a face-to-face 6-hour workshop, exploring some of the ins-and-outs of taking non-violent direct action for the planet. Hosted by experienced Rebels, this session is essential to Rebels old and new in preparing ourselves to take action safely, peacefully, rationally and regeneratively. The session will cover topics such as:

·         Why nonviolence? And how?

·         Action roles and responsibilities

·         Your rights with police

·         Regenerative culture

·         Arrestee support

·         Pre-briefs and debriefs

·         Getting started: What’s next for you?

The training is fully interactive and experiential. It is an excellent primer for new rebels and is critical for rebels who haven’t been arrested but are thinking about it and for those who wish to play support roles at actions where arrests are planned. For many previously trained rebels it also serves as a refresher.

The workshop is also a great opportunity to meet other rebels, hear their XR stories and learn to work together to build trust and community.

You will need to prepare by familiarising yourself with Extinctions Rebellion's demands and principles, which you can find here: What is XR - Extinction Rebellion Australia (ausrebellion.earth)

PLEASE NOTE: If you are new, we strongly recommend that you attend one of our regular introductory sessions - Heading for Extinction and What To Do About It - before coming to NVDA training. These are 90-minute online sessions and can be found under Events at https://ausrebellion.earth/ You can also watch a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVjjRHarTM8

Please come prepared by arranging some food and water and have a notebook handy to make sure you don't miss a thing.
