Find out what our council is doing to respond to the climate emergency - and what you can do to make a difference in North Tyneside.

Weds 11th Nov - 7pm-9pm - Zoom workshop

North Tyneside has declared a climate emergency. But what action plans have been drawn up to respond to this emergency? And will the Council carry them out?

Campaign placard reading There Is No Planet BOur councillors commissioned the Carbon Trust to draw up an extensive and detailed Action Plan to meet its declaration to reduce the borough’s net carbon footprint to zero by 2050. This plan, which has just been published, will mean big changes in how we use energy and where it comes from over the next few years, but we don't think 2050 is soon enough. Other councils in the North East have committed to much shorter timescales - and we don't yet know which aspects of the plan the Council will commit to.

Climate change is rapidly becoming the single biggest global challenge of our generation, and a core concern of the Green Party. We believe that environmental sustainability is also essential to social justice and therefore peace in our world.

The aim of this online workshop is to provide an opportunity to share our concerns and to think about what needs to done in this borough to reduce our collective carbon footprint. Clearly this target cannot be reached by individuals alone, but we will explore the plans which have been proposed, decide what we want our Council and other public bodies to do, and how we can contribute and campaign.

This Zoom Workshop will include various participative activities, a brief presentation about the Council’s Action Plan, and discussion in breakout rooms, setting priorities for your local Green Party to pursue. We are planning a lively and productive session which will help us all to explore climate change and what to do about it.
