NYC People's Tax Day Action Festival
Start: Tuesday, April 17, 2018• 5:00 PM
End: Tuesday, April 17, 2018• 7:00 PM
Join your fellow New Yorkers for some fun as we protest the new tax cut law, and show our support for our nation's health care and social safety net programs! it will be the NYC event for more than hundreds nationwide in and around Tax Day (this year, Tues. Apr. 17.)
The NYC festival will feature street theater, politically-correct sing-alongs, a "selfie soap box", life-sized "Runaway Inequality Monopoly", and information tables about organizing efforts to reach out to voters about these issues and what's at stake in this fall's mid-term elections.
The new tax cut law poses a direct threat to existing federal health care and social safety net programs, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance, Affordable Care Act, SNAP/Food Stamps, and many more. Beyond skewing our tax system EVEN MORE to benefit large corporations and the super-rich, it also blew a huge $1.5B hole in the federal budget over the next decade. Many expect Congress to soon move to try to slash funding for, and make radical changes to, the full range of these programs in order to make up for the shortfall. President Trump and his congressional allies intentionally created this deficit as an excuse to then attack domestic social programs. The Trump administration's 2019 budget proposals lay it all out.
