This is a virtual event

You are warmly invited to the first Compass Liberal Democrat Network meeting on Wednesday 24th March, from 4.45pm–6pm. We are delighted to be joined by Layla Moran MP and Christine Jardine MP. The event will be chaired by Neil Sherlock.

Will will discuss the appetite for cross-party working in the party, and the question of how we can deepen the thinking and practice of alliance-building within and outside of the Lib Dems.

Parallel meetings are happening in the Green and Labour parties, initiated by Compass. With 187 constituency Labour parties having now passed resolutions in favour of PR, there is a groundswell for this collaborative politics. How do we maximise its impact in the Lib Dems?

Liberal Democrats are natural pluralists: our core liberal values demand nothing less. We are open, empathetic, curious and inquiring. But we are also social. We believe everyone should be able to fulfil their potential and that it is the job of broader society, and through it the democratic and devolved state, to ensure this happens.

These two values combine to point our party in a clear direction, and that is towards a cross-party dialogue on the centre-left. This is not just a desirable outcome but is increasingly feasible and necessary. You can find out more about the Compass Liberal Democrat Network here.

You don't have to be a Compass member to attend this meeting – though you can join Compass here.
