What is ageism? Ageism is prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination against people based on their age. It can be directed against younger people and older people.

Researchers at Cornell University found that programs fostering intergenerational connections, combined with education about the aging process and its misconceptions, worked best at reducing ageist attitudes. Collectively, we can challenge our assumptions and end ageism.

How have relationships with people younger and/or older than you shaped your life? In many cultural communities/families intergenerational relationships are a core way of life; for others, they may be less familiar or understood. This session will provide an opportunity to reflect on connections between our self-narratives/beliefs and the relationships we’ve had with people across age groups. We will reflect on how our relationships have changed over time, through experiences and circumstances. We will also explore creative ways we can foster intergenerational relationships.
