Online Non-Violent Direct Action (NVDA) training Sunday afternoons

Start: 2020-09-13 14:00:00 UTC Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney (GMT+10:00)

End: 2020-09-27 16:00:00 UTC Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney (GMT+10:00)

This is a virtual event

Three consecutive sessions of 2 hours each are involved, on Sunday afternoons starting Sunday the 13th of September, then 20th of September and final session on 27th of September from 2pm to 4pm.

Commitment to all three sessions is required, as each one focuses on specific aspects of non-violent protest.

Please join us for our online Non-Violent Direct Action (NVDA) training sessions designed to clarify non-violent direct action and civil disobedience, reasons for engaging in them and how to make it work effectively.

These sessions aim to give people the time, space and experience to feel comfortable with taking part in NVDA and Civil Disobedience.

We will cover what makes Extinction Rebellion different, as well as discussing your rights, roles and responsibilities during actions.

The sessions are also a great opportunity to meet other rebels and learn to work together to build community and form affinity groups to take further action.

Session One – 13th September - Background to NVDA in the context of Extinction Rebellion’s aims

Session Two – 20th September - Affinity groups and how XR actions work

Session Three – 27th September - Your Rights in Victoria

As you can imagine, online NVDA Training is very different to an in-person NVDA workshop. Some of the elements such as role-playing and good group conversations with the other participants can’t be achieved in the same way. Our online training will take you through everything you need to know, but it is really important that you try and take part in an in-person training when we are allowed to get back together. We will offer in-person workshops at that point to cover the stuff we can’t do properly online.
