Please join Jerrianne Boggis, Executive Director of the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire for exploration of the origins of Juneteenth and its historical significance to New Hampshire.

Juneteenth – also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day – is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. How does the lens of this unique Afro-American commemoration intersect with contemporary issues of Black Lives Matter and its opposition to police violence and the wider struggle for social and economic justice? Jerrianne has an encyclopedic grasp of history rooted in what matters to activists and everyone who seeks a more just America. She will highlight the series of Juneteenth related events sponsored by the Black Heritage Trail of NH: Found Lineage: Celebrating African American Roots & Branches a focus on genealogical discovery which has brought both extraordinary stories of reconciliation to the public while the genetic data collected has demonstrated the stark brutality of America’s history.

Bio: JerriAnne is the executive director of the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire, the founder and director of The Harriet Wilson Project; and the previous Director of Diversity Programs & Community Outreach at the University of New Hampshire.
