People's Climate March in San Diego

Start: Sunday, September 21, 201412:30 PM

As you may know, on September 21 people from around the nation will come together in an unprecedented citizen mobilization for the People’s Climate March in New York City. As world leaders meet at the United Nations climate change summit, hundreds of thousands of marchers will demand the world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs, clean air and water, and healthy communities. Other marches will take place around the world as we collectively call on our leaders to act on climate change.

Here in San Diego a growing coalition is hosting our own local march - People’s Climate March San Diego - to support the New York and global events and to focus on solutions to climate change that we can implement locally. We are working to bring hundreds of San Diegans together to call for a rapid transition from fossil fuels to renewables and energy efficiency, and a just and sustainable economy.

The People’s Climate March San Diego will be on Sunday, September 21. We will gather at City Hall at 12:30 to call for a strong Climate Action Plan for San Diego, stop at the American Plaza / Santa Fe Station to highlight transportation alternatives and healthy communities, and end at the County Waterfront Building Park, where we will hear from local leaders representing different communities on developing sustainable policies and supporting green jobs and clean energy. There will also be music, big colorful visuals, and activities. We’ll end around 3:30-4 pm.

Confirmed speakers include Todd Gloria, San Diego City Council President and Richard Barrera, San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO.

The coalition of over 25 organizations endorsing the march to date includes: SanDiego350, Environmental Health Coalition, Sierra Club San Diego, San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council, AFL-CIO, IBEW Local 569, Circulate San Diego, Citizens’ Climate Lobby, California Nurses Association – National Nurses United, Food and Water Watch, Center for Biological Diversity, AFT Guild 1931, and the San Diego County Democratic Party.

In order to make the event as big as possible, we’ll need all hands on deck. We believe your vision for the future is in line with the People’s Climate March San Diego, and we’d love to have you and your other organizational affiliations be a part of our coalition of changemakers!
