Annual Brandywine Peace Community
Peace Banner Display
& Bell-Tolling with Historic Readings from, among others, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dorothy Day, Rev. Daniel Berrigan, Cesar Chavez

At: People’s Plaza, Independence Mall/National Historical Park, Market & 5th Streets, in Philadelphia, behind the Liberty Bell, in front of Independence Hall.

The display will be comprised of large and colorfully dramatic banners, from the Brandywine Peace Community’s compelling and continuing history of anti-war protest and nonviolent resistance over the past nearly half century, from 1977 to NOW.

Throughout the display the group's decades-old peace bell will toll and participants will stand or sit while holding a poster, available at the display, conveying a message of hope and our Independence Day plea for peace and justice in our communities and around the world, and justice among people and with the earth.

Participants are invited to come and go during the display, standing with a message poster, or to sit (bring your folding chair).

The public is being invited and urged to stop and partake in a visual and quiet bell-tolling experience in nonviolent resistance and peacemaking.
