PHS 17 Minutes "Lie-In"

Start: Wednesday, March 14, 201810:00 AM

On March 14th at 10am, we, the students of Piedmont High School will “lie in” in silence on our school campus for 17 minutes to honor the 17 lives lost in the Parkland Shooting and protest gun reform. Wear black. Orange wristbands will be passed out. News media will come to take photos. All are welcome to walkout of school after.

Later that day, during lunch, we are hosting a “share your voice” event in the theater for students to come speak on how to take action in reaction to these shootings. All opinions are welcome! Contact Julie Huffaker and Erin Hong if you wish to speak.

On Thursday and Friday lunch, we are hosting a letter writing to Congress table and a “I need gun reform because...” table.

Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school. Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day.

We are not safe at school. We are not safe in our cities and towns. Congress must take meaningful action to keep us safe and pass federal gun reform legislation that address the public health crisis of gun violence.

We as students are the movement to make change!!! It is up to us to make an impact.

Join us in saying #ENOUGH!
