Pickup Tour Rally with The United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America in Erie!
Start: September 04, 2017•12:00 PM
End: September 04, 2017• 3:00 PM
Join us on our last Pickup Tour stop with The United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE) before we head to Washington, D.C. to take our message directly to President Trump.
The UE is fighting to keep jobs in Pennsylvania at a General Electric (GE) Locomotive facility based in Erie. Those good paying jobs are under threat of being offshored after GE began laying off more than 1,500 workers at this facility. After Trump took office, the layoffs continued, as GE announced the end of locomotive manufacturing in Erie, cutting another 575 jobs. To make matters worse, GE has received hundreds of millions in tax payer dollars for federal government contracts, including $121,501,750 since Trump took office.
President Trump promised Pennsylvania workers to create "More Jobs, Better Wages," end offshoring and bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. On the campaign trail in Erie, Trump singled out GE layoffs and said "We’re gonna end it." Since Trump took office, there have been 78 new mass layoff announcements covering 6,341 jobs in Pennsylvania.
We'll be calling on Trump to sign a Model Employer Executive Order to make sure the federal government only does business with companies that create good union jobs in the USA; and build support for new state legislation to stop the offshoring of call centers in Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Workers and activists have joined us across the Midwest as we're calling out President Trump for refusing to sign a single executive order to raise wages or put a stop to offshoring by federal contractors who receive more than $1.3 trillion in taxpayer dollars every year. Nearly 140,000 American workers have been laid off in the first six months of Trump’s presidency alone.
No matter who you voted for, if you want a government that works for workers, join us on Monday!
