About the event:

Little-known International trade mechanisms like ISDS reinforce the power of multinational corporations while limiting the rights of communities and the sovereignty of states. In this event, we’ll learn more about ISDS by watching and discussing the video: International Mission to Colombia: Stop ISDS. The video explains how the ISDS system operates and how it affects the human and environmental rights of people in Colombia, focusing on the case of El Paramo de Santurban and people in La Guajira affected by coal extraction. After the video, we’ll discuss and share some initiatives to stop this mechanism and the need to audit the investment treaties to understand their consequences fully. Weaving Futures: Festival and Popular Education Series for a Just Transition, is a series of public events aimed at generating spaces for learning, articulation and action in solidarity with the movements and peoples in Colombia. Over four events in the coming months, we will delve into critical issues such as trade, treaties and corporate power, and the links between geopolitics, genocide, and energy systems. We will then explore pathways toward just transitions for affected communities, and how reparations can play a key role in addressing historic and ongoing harms. This series, a collaboration between War on Want, Tipping Point UK, London Mining Network, 350.org, Resist Glencore, and the Colombian Consulate in London, is a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and act in solidarity with those on the front lines of environmental and social justice.

En este evento, exploraremos más sobre el ISDS a través del video “Misión Internacional a Colombia: Detener el ISDS”.

Este video explica cómo funciona el sistema ISDS y cómo afecta los derechos humanos y ambientales en Colombia, centrándose en los casos del Páramo de Santurbán y de las comunidades en La Guajira afectadas por la extracción de carbón. Después de la proyección, discutiremos el impacto del ISDS y compartiremos algunas iniciativas para detener este mecanismo, así como la necesidad de auditar los tratados de inversión para comprender plenamente sus consecuencias. Tejiendo Futuros: Festival y Serie de Educación Popular para una Transición Justa es una serie de eventos diseñados para generar espacios de aprendizaje, articulación y acción en solidaridad con los movimientos y pueblos en Colombia. A lo largo de cuatro encuentros en los próximos meses, profundizaremos en temas críticos como el comercio, los tratados y el poder corporativo, así como en los vínculos entre la geopolítica, el genocidio y los sistemas energéticos. Luego exploraremos caminos hacia transiciones justas para las comunidades afectadas y el papel clave que pueden desempeñar las reparaciones en la reparación de daños históricos y actuales.

Esta serie, organizada en colaboración con War on Want, Tipping Point UK, London Mining Network, 350.org, Resist Glencore y el Consulado de Colombia en Londres, es una oportunidad única para conectar, aprender y actuar en solidaridad con quienes están en la primera línea de la justicia ambiental y social.
