Aligned with the national campaign, guest speakers will discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism as they relate to poverty in Texas.  The event Moderator will be Mr. Robert Ashley of KHVN 97AM Dallas, and our guest speakers include:

  • Dr. Brian Williams, MD, the trauma surgeon who was catapulted into the national spotlight when he cared for the police officers who were shot by a sniper during the 2016 Dallas protests against police brutality.  Dr. Williams actions and bravery during the crisis resulted in the Mayor of Dallas appointing him to become the Chair of the Citizens Police Review Board.  He will be discussing safety in our communities and will share information on the national health impact of COVID on poor people in America;
  • Dr. Jill Waggoner, MD, who has studied Functional and Integrative medicine for the past 15 years, an approach that seeks to find the cause of disease and uses multiple healing modalities to help patients obtain optimal health. She will present important information on the impact of the COVID-19 on health in our community and share thoughts for a healthy lifestyle that is critical for all of us;
  • Diana Flores, VP of Organizational Development of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, who will share important information about the economic impact of COVID on the small business community;
  • Zoe Middleton, the Southwest Texas Director of Texas Housers, who will discuss rent relief/assistance and eviction suspensions due to COVID-19, habitability issues in subsidized housing, and inadequate infrastructure; and
