Five years ago, New York State passed landmark climate legislation that would quickly transition us off of fossil fuels, calling for the state to get 70% of its energy from renewable resources by 2030. In 2023, recognizing that private industry wasn’t moving fast enough, New Yorkers passed the Build Public Renewables Act, which unleashed the publicly-owned New York Power Authority to build as much renewable energy necessary to meet that goal.

But now, in order to protect her friends in the fossil fuel industry, Kathy Hochul refuses to direct NYPA to build the renewable energy we need to decarbonize in time. She’s even admitted that the state won’t meet its 70% renewable energy target, a brazen violation of the law.

So on September 24th, New Yorkers are rallying at the headquarters of the New York Power Authority in White Plains to demand that Hochul unleash the People's Power and build 15 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. If the Governor wants to go down in history as anything other than a climate arsonist, she must build. We’re going to make sure she hears that loud and clear.
