Before the Senate Budget public hearing on Monday March 30th, rally with us at New Jersey Institute of Technology at 9:30am to demand a fairer, more resilient state budget.
New Jerseyans are not OK. Life is getting harder. Housing costs are rising. Healthcare is unaffordable. Transit is unreliable. Families are being asked to do more with less while the cost of living keeps climbing. At the same time, corporations and the ultra-wealthy continue to benefit from a system that is rigged in their favor.
What’s at Stake
New Jersey’s state budget is a $60 billion moral document. Who pays, and what we invest in, is a reflection of our values as a state. But the budget process is too often opaque, difficult to understand, and tilted toward special interests and politically connected corporation. That matters, because right now, too many New Jerseyans are struggling. At a time of economic uncertainty and facing federal cuts, the stakes are even higher.
If we continue with business as usual, passing budgets that favor the wealthy and only do just enough to pay the bills, we will keep falling short. We will miss the opportunity to make the bold investments needed to lower costs, strengthen communities, and build a more affordable state.
If we continue with business as usual, passing budgets that favor the wealthy and only do just enough to pay the bills, we will keep falling short. We will miss the opportunity to make the bold investments needed to lower costs, strengthen communities, and build a more affordable state.
Now more than ever, New Jersey needs a budget that puts people ahead of profits, raises the revenue we need fairly, and invests in a future where everyone can thrive.
Our Message: It’s time to unrig the system. We’re calling on New Jersey leaders to:
- Hold corporations accountable
- Make the super wealthy pay their fair share
- Protect and expand critical public investments
Raise progressive revenues. Invest in New Jerseyans. Build a future that works for all of us.
